For this week’s Nexus 7 ROM of the Week, check out C-ROM!
Based on latest Android 4.4.4, C-ROM brings you all the latest Android OS performance enhancements along with cherry picks of my favorite features/customization including floating multi-window, App Circle Bar, custom animations, and much more.
First off, this is the first time I’ve actually tried floating multi-window on a tablet device. I’ve been too spoiled by multi-window on my Note 10.1 that I never considered installing on Nexus 7 but it turns out it’s rather the perfect device to have it.
The floating multi-window on the C-ROM works near flawless as the larger size of the tablet allow me to actually be able to use it easily as the buttons are easy to press. Most importantly, it works just as fast as my Note 10.1, making it viable for daily use and multi-tasking between apps.
I have been testing this feature for months on my other Android devices but now I see the light of it and definitely recommend you to try it. And this is a feature on many other AOSP custom ROMs also, not just C-ROM.
Performance on the C-ROM is also super-zippy, really supercharges your Nexus 7 to the maximum. Android 4.4.4 mixed with C-ROM is a very nice combo for maximum performance and battery life.
For the original Nexus 7, performance is still laggy as the CPU on the original Nexus 7 just can’t do the job right but you can easily get around this and make it super-zippy by raising your CPU minimum values to over 500Mhz (see video on how to do this.) After that, my original Nexus 7 is “really fast”.
Overall, I know there’s a TON of other ROMs out there with similar features as C-ROM but C-ROM is certainly one of the best ROMs you can flash so if you are still stuck with older Android versions or stock, definitely give it a go, it’s certainly 10 times better than stock.
Download C-ROM with Android 4.4.4 KitKat for New Nexus 7 [2013 Edition]

Download Android 4.4.3 Gapps(Compatible with 4.4.4! Do not use older Gapps though!)
To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)
*Note – Please make sure you have latest CWM v220.127.116.11+ or TWRP v18.104.22.168+ to install KitKat ROMs. If your version is less than this, you can easily update your CWM or TWRP by going here.
